Study Shows Long-Term Improvements Achieved at Private Residential Treatment Schools
Santiam Crossing School Receives NAAS Certification
Santiam Crossing School is pleased to announce that they have received accreditation by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. We can now grant diplomas and experiential academic credits to their students. Santiam Crossing’s academic curriculum enables students to work at their own pace and level resulting in remarkable outcomes. Recently a student completed a full academic year in five months. Another came to us as a sophomore and in six month earned nine full year credits and returned to her high school as a senior. Santiam Crossing students also take part in extensive therapeutic work to address emotional and behavioral issues that are causing them to struggle. For more information visit their web site at http://www.santiamcrossing.com or for enrollment inquiries contact Sarah Mack at (800) 390-3983. (Jan. 2007)
Satisfied Santiam Crossing Parents
“Never before have I seen Tyler so confident and pleased with himself… He’s making new friends and has shown no interest in reconnecting with anyone from before. At home, he still knows what buttons to try to push, and I think we are doing a good job… Share with the other students Tyler’s successes and tell them that Tyler said he misses them and wants to hear how they’re doing. Thanks for all your help!” - Karen S. (Oct. 2006). To learn more about Santiam Crossing School visit their web site at http://www.santiamcrossing.com.

Santiam Students in Local Play
Recently seven Santiam Crossing School students participated in the “Sheepskin Review.” The review is an annual performance held in conjunction with the Scio, Oregon, Lamb and Wool Fair. The students worked with art teacher and storyteller, Paul Toewes, to put on an entertaining skit. The performance coincided with a monthly parent weekend, so the families of students were able to attend. A good time was had by all. Santiam Crossing School Therapists DBT Trained
Santiam Crossing therapists recently competed a two-day dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) theory and skills class. Santiam therapists have returned to campus with new tools to incorporate into students’ treatment plans as appropriate. In addition, they are now able to identify students that could benefit from long-term DBT. Dialectical behavioral therapy combines cognitive-behavioral theory and methods with Eastern meditative principles and practices. DBT addresses problems in regulating emotions, behavior, and thinking. This method is especially effective in treating individuals struggling with borderline personality disorder. For more information on Santiam Crossing School and the variety of clinical treatment modalities they use, visit their website at www.santiamcrossing.com or call (800) 390-3983. (April 2006)
Santiam Crossing School Expanding
To accommodate the growing student body, Santiam Crossing School has hired an additional teacher and will complete construction on a new classroom and an additional boy's cabin. Santiam Crossing was developed in response to feedback from our clients and members of the treatment community who consistently asked for a treatment option that was less than one year, reasonably priced, highly individualized, and that did not compromise academics. To learn more about what type of child is an appropriate candidate for Santiam Crossing call Sarah Mack at (800) 390-3983. (March 2005)

Santiam Students Swept Away By River Expedition Experience
Negotiating difficult situations, learning tools to help them handle unforeseen obstacles, and facing challenges - this is not the description of a typical group therapy session, but rather the details of the exhilarating rafting experience from which the students of Santiam Crossing School recently returned. The academic block break on the Deshutes River was lead by Catherine Freer Founder and Executive Director Rob Cooley, Ph.D., and Program Director Brian MacInnes. The students returned invigorated from the adventure. Learn more about Santiam Crossing School at www.santiamcrossing.com. (Nov. 2005)
A Big Turkey Required
Santiam Crossing School's campus was brimming with more than 70 people, mostly families of the students, who had come to participate in a family weekend and join in an early Thanksgiving celebration. The families have a great deal to be thankful for this year - their student is making great strides towards addressing the issues that are causing them to struggle. In addition to a meal with all the traditional trimmings, families participated in parenting workshops, family initiatives, and spent quality time with their Santiam student - all designed to facilitate the reunification of the family. Happy Anniversary Santiam Crossing
It seemed like just yesterday, but it was a year ago that Santiam Crossing first opened. In that time, we have served 30 students. We are pleased to report that 100 percent of the students who turned 18 while at Santiam Crossing chose to stay and successfully complete the program. Santiam Crossing is a six to nine month program appropriate for adolescents who have completed a therapeutic wilderness program. Here students can resume academic study while continuing to build on their treatment gains. Learn more by visiting the web site at www.santiamcrossing.com or contact Sarah Mack at (800) 390-3983 to plan a visit. (Sept. 2005)
